Works that are still in process often have a special energy of their own. The sparkle of potential maybe, or the promise of good things to come when they’re finished. Here are some images of works in progress that have that extra tingle. Some are still in the studio now, and some have gone on to their forever homes.
This is an exciting start on a large scale painting of a barn owl taking flight. I’m fascinated by owls. They’re sort of mystical with their silent flight feathers and echoing calls.
The challenge in painting them is to capture their intensity without making them look like you owe them money.

The play of color on that far canyon wall is really nice. Just a suggestion of the sage colors in the shadows with the cooling rocks.
Los Lobos. These two wolves are larger than life, although real wolves are surprisingly large in person! This one will go to Natural Kinships in Bend when it’s finished. Lots of canvas to work still.
Look at that handsome devil. He’s got wiley survivor written all over him. He’s going to be tall, and scruffy. Big feet for those deep snows. And pulsing with color and life force. Because wild wolf.
And sometimes you know (or hope, at least) a work is going to be special from the moment the ink touches the canvas.
